WWII

Writing about WWII is a great opportunity because a lot of young college students don't know much about what actually happened during the war, what caused it, and what actually happened to the people who were in the war and how they were affected. The jewish people in Germany were discrimintated and it all escalated from there. I can relate to this topic because one of my grandparents was in the war and I can personally tell that it effected him greatly.

halloween

halloween is one of the coolest days. everyone gets dressed up. this weekend was the halloween dance at school and everyone was dressed up, seeing people dressed as teletubbies, flight attendants and even the entire Duke Lacrosse team was pretty exciting. when ever halloween comes around I think of when I was littler and went trick or treating with all my friends from around our neighborhood. When we were all done we would put our candy in little piles, sorting them and trading the ones that we didn't like with others who did like them. I can't wait till someday I will be the one taking my kids trick or treating just like my parents did to me

tattoo

the star has a black outline, each point is cut in half and is a different color one half of the point of the star is lime green
while the other is turquoise. it is called a nautical star and it represents who i am just by the shape and the colors of the tattoo. getting it didn't hurt as much as i expected, I was very excited when I got it done because I was the one who designed it.

waffles vs. pancakes

thinking of breakfast we usually think of pancakes or waffles. waffles piled high with whip cream and syrup all over. that is the way i like it. pancakes are also good but they are totally different from each other. waffles are more sweet and for someone who has a sweet tooth but pancakes are more of a breakfast food that you can mix together with eggs, bacon, and home fries.
these to breakfast foods are very different from each other, but they are still under the same category of foods.

Guilty pleasure

everyone has a guilty pleasure. mine is eating chocolate. i can't resist chocolate espacially when
I am having a bad day eating chocolate just makes me feel better. chocolate is also good for you
it is supposed to help clear your skin but it is also a girls best friend. After a break up just sitting down
watching a movie and eating an entire bag of chocolate kisses. I would never give up eating chocolate
it is just irresitable to me

Political stuff

well i have never really been interested in all the political stuff going on around me. I am
not able to vote since li wasn't born in the US. I don't really mind not being able to vote
because it doesn't really seem like that I miss out on anything. All I care about in this upcoming
presidential election that it is someone better than Bush, who becomes presiden. I have heard a lot about Bush from my parents
and have grown to dislike since he entered office. He has made very many wrong decisions for this Country.

christmas oranges

the moment in this flavious stans life is the ending of the hardship of communist
it is around christmas time and he wants to suprise his family with oranges because
they have never seen them before since they are so rare in Romania at the time of Communism
Flavious wanted to make his family proud by getting the oranges and show them what he would do to
support his brothers and family and still show them that they are all happy. getting the oranges
suprised everyone so much that they didn't want to touch the oranges at all they all looked at
them like glass statues that if you touched them that they would break and disappear forever.

Green and Blue

When a visitor steps into my room they are completely overwhelmed. all the colors that you see are those of a Caribbean beach
my bed sheets as turquoise, there are green and blue gems on the wall and there are posters Caribbean beaches. The poster of James Dean with his famous quote "Dream as if you'll live forever, Live as if you'll die today" attracts everyones attention immediatly. Also the giant white orchid that stands next to my bed makes it feel very contemporary and unique. These are my favorite colors and everyone can tell and know that I am a very colorful and unique person.

Favorite Food

My favorite food for the longest time has been pasta with tomato sauce. The creamy goodness of the marinara sauce kicks up the pasta to make the experience of eating even better. The pasta at the cafeteria is good, but not as great as the dish that my mom makes me when i get home from college on the weekends. the sauce is made from scratch and the past is boiled to perfection. The smell from the sauce wafts up to my room on the second floor and it wakes me up even when I am sound asleep. The sauce is perfectly seasoned and tastes amazing. The pasta is always in my favorite shape as well, the bow tie pasta is one of my favorties and we always have it at my house. My mom is like my personal chef, since she graduated culinary school 4 years ago.

Peer Editing

Today in class we spend most of our time peer editing peoples narrative papers
they were all pretty good and great in detail but the problem that I faced was not being able to give any negative feedback to my group members only thinking of the positive and what could possibly be added.I like peer editing because I makes me go over my own paper one more time while reading it aloud, but also having others jugde my writing skills and giving me tips on how to make my writing even better

Learning then College

In the Narrative "Learning, then College" the author talks about how she decided to take a year off before going to college. During that year taking part in numerous internships in various fields. Enabling her to learn many new things. What really made me relate to her essay was that I also thought about taking a year off and no one supported that decision and very few supported hers as well. In my senior year of High School when it was time for me to apply to college the thought popped into my head that I could tak a year off and take a few courses that would help my GPA and that I could get into better schools that now wouldn't even look at my applications. Many of my friends opposed the thought of taking a year off because to them I would be left behind and they would continue on with their lives. After a while the thought disappeared and I applied to many colleges in the New England area which offered Nursing. Over the Summer I did a few Internships in hospital and a physical therapists office. This made me change my mind that I really wanted to go to college.

Writing

Writing has never been a great passion of mine, I was not born in America I was born in a small town in Southern Germany. I came here when I was seven years old at the beginning of second grade. I was learning a whole new language and how to read and when finally I had accomplished that it seemed that I had missed all the basics of grammar and writing. I don't remember covering anything else on grammar and punctuation for the rest of my elementary school career. when starting middle school I noticed I was having trouble when doing papers, I never knew the right spot for a comma or when my sentences where to long. In High school the only time we talked about the importance of grammar was just the week before midterms or finals. Ive always had trouble weaving my papers so that it all flows together into one. my teachers always criticized me on my writing how I missed an Introduction paragraph and that my paragraphs never flowed together so that they make sense. This is hard since they never showed us how to make it flow and to improve our writing skills. It feels like I haven't improved on my writing skills at all during my high school career and that I am behind others. When reading others papers I feel that my writing is horrible compared to theirs, them using all these big terms and me just using simple words. Sometimes I dread going to english classes because we have to do all this writing. but throughout the years I have become somewhat used to my writing style as my own and not anyone elses.
